Day One

At long last, I shall blog.  I shall vent.  I shall let the world know how a family of 5, Five I tell you!, manages to live on $22,304 per year.  Well, that's how much we made last year.  And the year before that was a couple of thousand dollars more.

I hope to prove to the world that we are smart, creative, talented, college-educated, incredibly optimistic (my husband is, me, not so much), and have a strong immigrant work ethic.  Yet, we feel like hamsters in a wheel.  Maybe, dear reader, you can let us know what we are doing wrong.  I anticipate lots of "get off your asses and get a job! Any job!"

Yes.  We've tried that.  Okay, not so hard.  We've had jobs that paid $200/hour.  It makes no sense to work minimum wage for several hours a day and have most of it go to childcare.  It's a conundrum.  It's always a conundrum with this...capitalism they call it.

Still, we are hopeful.  We work hard.  Our children keep us happy.

And most important of all, we are not dead yet.  So there is always hope.

We are poor on paper, but rich in our hearts!
